Enjoying movement and music with friends is huge part of why we dance, but that’s not all there is to it.
As I see dancers striving to improve and taking on new challenges, there’s both a desire and a practical need to understand movement and dance on a deeper level.
When you dig into the fundamentals of technique, the changes you make ripple into the rest of your dancing. You get good at unpacking new or familiar steps in any class, whether it’s focused on syllabus, socialization, or technique.
A deeper understanding of movement empowers you to self-assess and keep improving no matter what’s going on in class. A step that’s not working changes from a point of frustration, to an almost meditative observation and adjustment of movement so it not only feels right, but feels like you.
When you learn to adjust, you can play with how you carry yourself to bring out personality, character, and the dynamics you hear in the music. This is when the magic happens. ✨
Understanding your body, technique, and how they serve your artistry is at the core of what makes ballet special. For me, seeing this understanding grow in my students is one of the biggest joys of teaching.
Wishing you moments of slowing down, digging deep, and finding the magic,
Natasha
