Last week I wrote about tuning into your ballet joy and choosing how you’d like to share it when you’re performing. That’s the head space you wanna hold onto as the big day approaches.
If you’re not there yet, that’s okay! These tips can help you stay connected with your artistic self amidst the glorious chaos of show day.
Goals and Mindset Check In
Start performance day strong by remembering why you’re dancing and the artistic choices that make it feel meaningful to you. Keep that at the forefront to enjoy the performance magic all day long, give or take a few hiccups.
Use Your Warm up as YOU Time
Not only is warming up essential for dancing your best, it’s your chance to check in with how you’re feeling. Taking a minute to connect with yourself sets you on the right track to glide through self-doubting or hectic moments, and maybe even enjoy them as part of the experience.
Pace Yourself with Mini Breaks
Rest and mindfulness can look a lot of different ways. They might include chatting with friends, taking deep breaths, or revelling in the intense focus of getting your eyeliner juuuust right. I used to knit scarves all the way through Nutcracker season.
Whatever rest looks like to you, make sure you take those moments when you can get ‘em. Now’s a great time to grab your dance journal or performance planner and note down the times you’ll find calm in the storm of your next show day, or in a busy dance season.
You’ve got this.
Can’t wait to hear how it goes,
